This Memorial Day marks the second installment of the groundbreaking monthly radio program “Red Feminist Radio” presented by AF3IRM. Listen to the newest episode on Radio Sombra and streaming worldwide at http://radiosombra.org.
This much anticipated episode, entitled “Revolutionary Mothers,” covers a wide range of important issues central to the complex experiences of women as the givers of life and the caretaker of the family. It will address how to be a mother, who is conscious, progressive, and militant - in other words, the revolutionary mother.
Special guests include Kelly Gray, a full spectrum doula, who will speak on providing expecting mothers and the birthing process with dignity and respect. Gray shared several resources for pregnant women, which are listed at the end of this release.
The episode continues with the women of AF3IRM providing their firsthand experiences as mothers within activist movements. AF3IRM LA member Faith Santilla, who is also an artist and organizer, takes the audience through the next steps of life and will share how to raise progressive children and how to include them into movement-building. San Francisco Bay Area chapter coordinator Katrina Socco fights back against society’s pressures to bow down and sacrifice all to the demands of motherhood and demonstrates how to keep your self and your politics present and active.
The episode is hosted by AF3IRM National Chair Jollene Levid and was edited by Marco Amador. Future episodes in development will continue to bring light to AF3IRM’s focus on transnational culture and communities, especially the transnational woman, as well as explore and define women’s activism and organizing across ethnic divides.
